It is with sad news that legendary Japanese actor Kenji Ohba, who is known to be the father of the Metal Hero franchise, Space Sheriff Gavan, has passed away yesterday at the age of 72.
He passed away on May 6, 2026, 2:23 P.M. after a long battle with his illness since 2018, where he was found unconscious in his home. His funeral will be held in private as this was the wish of his family. The news was announced by his agency J.A.E.
Besides for being a tokusatsu actor, Ohba was also a legendary stunt and suit actor (where he was also a suit/stunt actor for Kamen Rider Ichigo in the first Kamen Rider TV series). His other tokusatsu roles are Shiro Akebono/Battle Kenya of Battle Fever J and Daigoro Oume/Denji Blue of Denshi Sentai Denjiman. The actor also appeared in the Kill Bill movies as Hanzo Hattori's assistant.
